The Big Cull! Ridding my stash of unused goods

Having a shopping addiction and being a hoarder are two things that do not go well together. Unfortunately I seem to suffer from both these traits and as much as I love buying new items, I also can’t bear to throw anything away.

Today I decided enough was enough and I went through and tackled my makeup collection to ge rid of all those things that I should have thrown out but didn’t. I also went through and weeded out all of the products I bought with the best intentions but just haven’t used. I’ve put out the call to my friends to come by and grab what they want because I’d rather someone use them since I haven’t been!  After going through my stash, the stuff below is what I’ve decided to get rid of:

I feel so much better having done the big cull but now that my unused items have been removed from my collection my shelves and drawers have just enough space for some new things…

Is your collection full of things you don’t use? How often do you do a big clean out of your beauty stash?

A Round Up of Posts from the Beauty Blogosphere

It’s been so long since I did a link love post so I thought I’d take the opportunity to share with you all some of the posts that I’ve loved reading over the last week or so. This is in no way an exhaustive list but just a selection of some of my faves from the week.

First up is this gorgeous navy blue smokey eye by Hannah from Beauty Down Under. She uses NARS Outremer eyeshadow and makes me rethink my choice to pass on this gorgeous shade!
Danielle from Bloomin Beauty posted some swatches of Sunday Riley products which look amazing! I need Fools Gold in my life!
Celina from Fables in Fashion shares her tips for surviving a less than perfect work day, something we all experience at some point or another.
Safiyah over at Frooti Beauty came up with the most beautiful EOTD that you have to check out!
Check out Alicia from Funny Face Beauty’s post from the Physician’s Formula event that she went to recently. I am loving all of the led’s in the products and the cute designs!
Michelle from the spanking new blog Grace and Glitter (so new she’s only just written up her first post! ) tells us why she’ll never be an investment shopper, a sentiment I totally relate to!
Michelle from Lipstick Rules put up some very tempting swatches of YSL’s new Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stains which had me heading to my YSL counter as soon as I could!
Vita from Making Up 4 My Age   swatches Forget-me-not from Essence and has me lusting after this periwinkle coloured nail polish!
Saim from Saimese came up with a gorgeous pink Valentine’s Day EOTD that I can’t wait to try and recreate!
Last but definitely not least, Kayleigh from Taupe is the New Black  shares her love for the Gosh Bronzing Powder which she says is just as good as (or even better than) some high end bronzers she’s tried.

Hope you check out these great posts. If you’ve read something recently that you think is a must read, please leave me a link below.

What are your personal makeup rules?

I woke up this morning and decided it was a red lip kind of day. As I was preparing my face for the piece de resistance lipstick (Chanel Dragon of course) I kept following all these makeup rules in my head.

My makeup rules for when I’m wearing red lips are :

  • Foundation that isn’t matte or heavy (Estee Lauder Double Wear mixed with Becca Luminous Skin Foundation)
  • Very simple radiant eye makeup (MAC Woodwinked, Cork in the crease and some mascara
  • Little to no blush (today I decided to go with none)

These aren’t rules that I think everyone should follow but they’re things I pretty much always do to make myself comfortable with wearing a red lip.

I have other makeup rules I follow such as I never pull my liquid liner all the way across my top lashline and I don’t wear dark shadow across my whole lid. They’re things I think look great on other people but I just feel like I look odd when I do them.

It got me thinking about what other people’s rules are because I’m sure everyone has their thing they personally think they have to do or think they definitely can’t do even though they wouldn’t give it out as general makeup advice.

So I want to know, do you have a personal makeup rule? If you do, what is it? Let me know below!

NYC Color: $2 nailpolishes? Yes please!

I was killing time in Woolworths while waiting for a movie session and I happened to come across these N.Y.C. Color nail polishes marked at $2 each. Usually when I see one of these containers with budget polishes, I’ll do a cursory sort through and then walk away from the inevitably ugly colours but this time was different because check out these beauties:

There was such a great colour selection and for $2 each I couldn’t help myself. Spring has sprung in Melbourne so all the pastels were calling my name but there was also some great Fall type shades as well as fun glitter and neon polishes. My friend banned me from making any more glitter polish puchases but I managed to sneak a neon purple through even though it’s not looking very neon in the picture above!

The polishes are swatched below:

The quality of the polishes varied from colour to colour but I think they were a bargain. I’ve been wearing these over my Seche Base Coat and topped with my Seche Vite as I find some of the colours just take forever to dry otherwise. I’ve been applying about 2-3 coats of each but the first shade ‘Berry Fuchsia’ is so opaque I’ve been able to get away with one coat.

I’d definitely recommend these so check them out if come across these in your travels.

Notice anything different?…

Probably not but that’s ok.

This is just a head’s up that this blog has now officially moved to a dotcom.
I had plans of moving my blog to wordpress and purchased a domain but then realised that for the amount of customisation I wanted, I had to pay more money which I didn’t want to do at this stage.

I was hoping to use that domain to direct my blogger blog to instead but that would be too easy so I have now purchased another domain.
This blog is now at http://www.bugsbeauty.com with my wordpress domain, http://www.bugsbeautyblog.com reserved for a possible future move should I ever become web literate enough to turn the site into what I want.
I’ll probably still be moving things around here and there and possibly add new features in the near future so stay tuned.

Quick Hello…

Hello all 🙂

I thought I’d just touch base since I feel like I’ve been gone from the blogosphere for a longer than I intended.

I was in the process of moving my blog over to wordpress to correspond with my change to a dot com but I’ve been having a few issues so I’m sticking with Blogger for a while longer.

In the mean time, I’ve been coming up with some EOTD’s but I managed to snap my SD card a little while ago and wasn’t able to take pictures for a while.

I’ve finally gotten my act together and purchased (well let’s say I repurposed a card from someone else’s camera…) and now I’m ready to go.

My goal is to have a few posts up this weekend so stay tuned.

On another note, is it just me or does blogging seem easier in the spring/summer months? I feel like the dreary Melbourne winter is bringing down my mood and my drive to experiment with makeup…
