Lip of the Day- Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey

With Autumn in the air, I’ve been rediscovering lip products that I put away during spring and summer. Today’s lip is an oldie but a goodie, Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey.

1

This is one of those cult shades that works across skin tones due to how sheer it is. It works with your own lip colour to build something that’s unique to you. Like a lot of women, my lips are not all one shade so I like to layer most lip products over a lip liner to even them out but this lipstick looks lovely and effortless on its own as well.

2

I wanted something that would compliment the lipstick so I paired it with Rimmel Exaggerate Automatic Lip Liner in Obsession. I really like the texture of this lip liner as it’s really comfortable on the lips. The shade is a very pretty muted red berry shade that look nice on its own or under most red lipsticks.

3

I really like the end result and how rich the shade looks. You can easily change the look of the lipstick by pairing it with different shades of lip liner. I recommend checking it out if you haven’t yet.

Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipsticks- swatches and review

1

I’ve been staying away from making any high end purchases so I find myself spending more time at the drug store. Lucky for me drug store makeup has come a long way and it’s quite easy to find comparable products at a cheaper price (and not as nice packaging). Today I’ve got four of the Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipsticks to show you and they’re worth a look!
2

I bought Notting Hill Nude, In Love With Ginger, As You Want Victoria and Sloane’s Plum when Priceline was having a 2 for 1 deal. There weren’t any other shades that jumped out at me- these 4 seemed like they’d work the best with my skin tone.

3

Swatched below from left to right is Notting Hill Nude, In Love With Ginger, As You Want Victoria and Sloane’s Plum. You can see how pigmented the shades are and how vibrant (except for the nude obviously).

4

Notting Hill Nude is a pink toned nude with a hint of brown to it. As it has a white base, this shade can easily wash me out so I wouldn’t apply it as fully as I have below and would pair it with a darker eye look. This shade can be unforgiving on lips that haven’t been exfoliated so make sure you get rid of any flaking before you apply it!

5

6

Comparison swatches are below (from left to right): Notting Hill Nude, Burberry Lip Mist in Copper, MAC Half & Half, Dior Addict Lipstick in 333 Nude, Burberry Lip Mist in Nude Peach and Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited in BG934. I find the two Burberry shades and the Dior shade to be the easiest nudes to wear on my skin tone. This is probably because they’re more translucent so they meld better with my natural lip shade.

7

In Love with Ginger is a vibrant orange shade with quite a bit of red through it. I love shades like this and the brightening effect they have on my complexion. This is such an easy shade to wear and I love how juicy and glossy it looks on the lips.

8

9

Comparison shades below (from left to right): In Love With Ginger, Maybelline Color Sensational lipstick in Neon Red, MAC Scarlet Ibis, Maybelline Color Sensational in Electric Orange and Kardashian Beauty lipstick in Retro Red. I find this range to be comparable to the Maybelline Color Sensational range but I like this shade more than the Maybelline shades that are swatched. It doesn’t compare to the intensity and pigmentation of the Kardashian shade though- look how vibrant it is!

10

As You Like It Victoria is a bright slightly blue based pink. You know I love a bright pink lip so there was no way I was passing this one up!

11

12

Comparison swatches (from left to right): As You Like It Victoria, Maybelline Color Sensational in Fifth Ave Fuschia, YSl Rouge Volupte in Rose Culte, Kardashian Beauty lipstick in Shocking Pink and Revlon Colorburst lip butter in Raspberry Pie. Rose Volupte is one of my go to shades and the Rimmel shade is quite comparable if you’re looking for a cheaper alternative.

13

Last but not least is Sloane’s Plum which is a plum shade with a blue iridescence through it. I have quite a few purple shades which have blue iridescence through them but not any plums. This is a great rich autumn shade which I’ll be wearing more often as the weather cools down.

14

15

Comparison swatches (from left to right): Sloane’s Plum, Guerlain Rouge G in Gigolo, MAC Rebel, Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet in La Sensuelle and Loreal Caresse Gloss in Milady. Shade wise, Milady is probably the closest to the Rimmel shade but I didn’t own any dupes. I like this shade because it’s easily transformed by changing the lipliner underneath.

16

I’m loving these Rimmel shades and have been wearing them quite a lot. They’re very comfortable on the lips but they’re not moisturising as such. As they’re quite glossy, they’re not long wearing so I always wear these over a lipliner. They sell for about $10 in Australia and I don’t think you can go wrong, especially if you wait for a sale to come round!

What do you think of these lipsticks? Have you tried them before?

Lip of the Day- Rimmel Renew Lipstick in Sloane’s Plum

Just a quick post to get back into the swing of things. Today’s lip of the day is NYX lipliner in Deep Purple topped with Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in Sloane’s Plum. I picked up the lipstick without knowing what it looked like and it was a pleasant surprise. Full review to come but initial thoughts are that it feels really great on the lips and has great pigmentation.

I haven’t posted because I just haven’t been in the mood and I’ve decided not to force myself to blog when I’m not in the right frame of mind. This year hasn’t been a great one so far and I have a few friends who are going through some really tough times but I’m just so impressed with how they’ve been pushing through despite everything against them. You guys are amazing!

Rimmel Apocaliptic Lip Lacquers

1

I’m making my way to Canada and the USA next week so I promised myself that I would go on a spending ban but these Rimmel Apocalips glosses were just too good to pass up at $7.97 each. They’re currently on sale at Priceline but are still cheaper in the US at $4.99 each.

2

What are Apocalips?

Rimmel says:

‘It’s the End of Colour as you know it! The intense rich colour of a lipstick, enhanced by a satin smooth shine. It’s neither a lipstick nor a gloss… It’s BIGGER than both!’

3

This product seems to be Rimmel’s answer to the wave of lip lacquers that have been hitting the shelves but to me this is just a really opaque lip gloss. Luckily the tube has a really good stopper which takes a lot of product off the applicator before you apply. The applicator is self is a doe foot with a little scoop in it which traps the product.

4

I picked up the shades Solstice, Apocaliptic and Stellar which I’ve swatched below from left to right.

5

Solstice lip swatch:

6

This shade is not one that I would usually buy as it’s so tame but this rosey- mauve shade was just such a lovely ‘my lips but better’ shade that I couldn’t resist. It evens out my lip colour and gives a very demure look that I love. The formula also really works in this shade as it’s such a natural colour and I found it really easy to apply.

7

Apocaliptic lip swatch:

8

This is a shade that I had to get because I can never resist a bright pink! It’s such a lovely pink  as well that treads the line between red and pink. The formula of this makes this shade tricky to apply though and I struggled to get this on neatly with the included applicator.

9

Stellar Lip swatch:

10

This is such a lovely bright coral shade and perfect for spring/summer. I had the same application issues with this shade though due to how opaque the colour is.

11

There are two major issues that I have with this product- it doesn’t dry down at all and the smell is horrible! Even though this is marketed as a lip lacquer, it doesn’t function like any of the lip lacquers I love (YSL Glossy Stain, Loreal Caresse Lip Stain Gloss) as it has no staining power and it doesn’t have any lasting power. As you can see below, the colour has totally worn off after I drank some water.

You can try and fix this problem by applying a lip liner underneath like I always do when using a coloured lipgloss. The smell, on the other hand, can’t really be fixed so beware if you’re sensitive to scents in lip products! The smell is some type of fruity scent but it’s not pleasant and I’ve had lots of people smell it and they seem to agree. The scent does go away after a while though so it’s bearable if you love the shade enough.

12

Overall I thought the product was ok but it didn’t rock my world. I did love the Solstice shade and assume that this formula will work well with any of the other more natural shades. With the very intense shades though, get out some lip liner and be prepared to touch up regularly unless you want to avoid eating and drinking through out the day!

Have you tried the Rimmel Apocalips range? What do you think?

Kate Moss for Rimmel Lasting Finish lipstick shade #4

I’ve already posted about shade 12 from the Kate Moss for Rimmel collection of lasting finish lipsticks here but I had to show you shade 4 which I picked up the other day. It comes in the same signature tube but, compared with the bright and fun shade #12, shade #4 is very vampy and perfect for the cold autumn/winter which Australia is currently in.

The shade is a dark grape which leans more plummy or black depending on the light. I don’t have anything like it in my collection so I couldn’t find any dupes or similar colours to show you. It could be similar to MAC Cyber lipstick though but with a litte bit more purple in it than Cyber.
The finish is a little bit creamier than that of shade #12 and I would say it finishes more like a satin. This shade is really pigmented and it covers my lips well. It can go on a little bit unevenly straight from the bullet though so I would suggest layering over a lipliner or applying it in thin layers with a lip brush.
It can be difficult to pull off such a dark shade but my tip is to keep everything else understated and simple for a more effortless look. Check out this past post about the modern way to wear dark lips. In the look below, I used MAC Face and Body all over my face, a bronzer to lightly contour my cheeks and didn’t use any blush. For the eyes, I evened out my lids with mineral powder and then added a gold highlight around the tear duct, finished off with mascara and filled in my brows.
I’m loving this shade and I have an inspired FOTD coming up soon using it as a focus.
What do you think of the colour? Do you have your own tips for pulling off dark lipsticks?

The Kate Collection for Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick #12

I was in Priceline the other day looking for something to spend my money on when I came across the Kate collection of Lasting Finish Lipsticks by Rimmel. This is a collection of 7 shades developed by Kate Moss for Rimmel.  The lipsticks come in a black case with Kate’s name written on it in red and I think it’s really cute.

All the lipsticks were lovely but only one really stood out to me because it was different (enough) to any shade I currently own. I picked up shade 12 which is this bright coral shade that matches the intensity and quality of a lot of my higher priced products. The finish of the shade is the modern matte favoured by a lot of brands of late and reminds me a lot of the finish of MAC’s Iris Apfel lipsticks.

I have a lot of reds, oranges and orange/red’s in my collection so I wanted to show how this shade differs. Looking at the swatch below, the Rimmel shade is in the middle with Milani Mandarina on the left and MAC Scarlet Ibis on the right. Mandarina is a straight up orange while Scarlet Ibis is a definite orange toned red. The Rimmel shade on the other hand is like a mixture of the two with a hint of pink thrown in which softens it slightly.

My lips are quite pigmented but this lipstick covers them without any trouble. It goes on really smooth but, like any matte shade, it will start drying up your lips after a while. I find I can get a good 3 or 4 hours wear without eating or drinking. This lipstick wears off really evenly so I end up with a lovely coral stain towards the end of the day.

Here’s a full face shot so you can see how it looks on me. I don’t usually suit coral’s but this shade has a real brightening effect.

I love this shade and have been wearing it constantly since I bought it. I picked it up from Priceline for about $11 from memory and I would highly recommend it. I was also eyeing shade #4 which is a dark vampy purple so I’ll be sure to swatch it if I get it.
