NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream: Part 2

*Note 11/12/14- I updated the photos in this post*

This is part two of my review/swatches of NYX’s Soft Matte Lip Creams. You can check out part 1 here if you haven’t already. As I said in my first post, I purchased 8 of the 11 available shades and this second post contains the more pink based shades in the range.

Before I show swatches of these colours I have to say that I’m really impressed with the quality of these lip products. Everything from the shade range to the packaging to the product itself just screams ‘high end’ so it’s fantastic that these are only $6 each! NYX has definitely stepped their game up and I hope this encourages other cheaper brands to do the same.

The colours I’m swatching will be #6 Istanbul, #7 Addis Ababa, #8 San Paulo and #11 Milan.

From left to right: #6 Istanbul, #7 Addis Ababa, #8 San Paulo and #11 Milan

The first shade is #6 Istanbul and it’s a pale bubblegum pink. Correct me if I’m wrong since I don’t own the original Viva Glam Gaga but, from the online swatches I’ve seen, this shade looks like it could be a close match. I don’t usually like such pale pinks but I think this shade actually looks fab with a smokey eye.

This next shade is #7 Addis Ababa and I LOVE this colour! It’s brighter than it’s showing up on my lip swatch but it’s a really bright blue toned pink. I think it’s a very similar if not brighter version of NARS Schiap. I’m going to be doing some dupe posts soon so I’ll definitly be swatching this with some other bright pinks I own.

This next shade is #8 San Paulo. I think it’s meant to be ‘Sao Paulo’ but it has ‘San Paulo’ written on the tube. This shade is a raspberry pink so it’s a pink with quite a bit of red in it. I thought it might be similar to Viva Glam Cyndi but I think Cyndi has more coral through it. This is a great shade to ease yourself into red’s if you’re a bit colour shy.

The last shade is #11 Milan and it’s a gorgeous mid tone pink. This colour is really pretty but I find that I have to wear a slightly darker lipliner with it to make it work with my skin tone.

That’s all of the shades I own and hopefully the swatches were helpful. I am considering getting the shades Amsterdam and Monte Carlo which are the reds in this range and if/when I do I’ll definitely post up the swatches for them.

So which colour shade has been your favourite? Will you be checking these out or passing?

NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams: Part 1

* Note: I updated this post on 16 July 2014 and added new photos which better captured the shades*

As you can tell from the title, today’s post is about NYX’s Soft Matte Lip Creams. This product is in between a lip stain and liquid lipstick and is matte as the name suggests. There are 11 shades available and I had a bit of a psychic moment when I just knew I would love these so I decided to purchase 8 of the available shades. I purchased mine from for $6 US each. I decided to pass on the shade Tokyo which was a very light milky pink and I also passed on the 2 red shades although I may go back and purchase these two later.

They come in a tube which looks to be the same size as a standard MAC lipgloss. The lid on these has a lovely NARS-esque matte finish which makes them really comfortable to use. The applicator is a doe foot which is cut at an angle and is actually pretty good at applying the product to the lips. This product is buildable in coverage so you can apply a bit for a sheerer more stained look or build it up for a more opaque lipstick like finish. The product goes on really smooth and my lips feel great while I’m wearing it.

These are still a matte product though and so they pick up on any dryness so I always exfoliate and put on some lip balm before wearing these. The finish on these is lovely because they really do finish into a ‘soft’ matte so your lips don’t look parched which can happen with more unforgiving matte lip products. Each of the shades has a number as well as a name which corresponds to various cities around the world. The colours I’m posting about in part 1 of the 2 posts are #02 Stockholm, #4 London, #5 Antwerp and #9 Abu Dhabi.

This is #2 Stockholm on my lips. This colour is a peachy nude and I think it would look great with a smokey eye. I actually really like this colour and find it easy to wear because it isn’t so pale that it makes me look like I’m wearing concealer on my lips plus it has a good balance of peach, pink and brown.

The next shade is #4 London. This shade is similar to Stockholm except it has more brown to it. If I were to pick between this colour and Stockholm, I would definitely pick this one because I think it’s a more flattering nude with my skin tone.

This next colour is #5 Antwerp and it’s quite a bright coral-pink. This shade isn’t my favourite but that’s probably because it’s definitely a Spring/Summer shade and Australia’s in Autum/Winter mode. I think I’ll give this colour more love once the sun comes out again.

The last shade is #9 Abu Dhabi and it’s a darker version of London. This colour is a perfect neutral versus nude shade. I think it’s probably my favourite out of the bunch since it’s so easy to wear and looks as good with a smokey eye as it does with a really neutral look.

Have any of you tried these yet? What do you think of them? Stay tuned for part 2!

Bye Bye New Years Resolution: Cherry Culture and All Cosmetics Wholesale hauls

I swore to myself that I would curb my spending this year and that I would stop purchasing so much makeup but that lasted for about a week after New Years and then I was back to my old ways. I guess it’s hard to stop spending when you don’t actually stop looking out for what’s on sale because that way temptation lies. I think I’m going to have to start hoping for an out of sight out of mind type deal and just block myself from any and all makeup sites.

Anyway, I came home from an exam today to find two of my recent purchases sitting in my room. Don’t you love when your online purchases arrive after a difficult day? It’s like a reward for making it through 🙂 I’d actually forgotten what I bought so it was extra exciting opening up the boxes and seeing what was inside.

Box number 1 contained a purchase from and I bought the MAC Pro Longwear foundation in NC42, TheBalm Time Balm concealer in Mid-Medium, MAC Mineralize loose powder foundation in Medium Dark, Estee Lauder Bronzing Pearls with retractable brush, MAC Antiqued eyeshadow, MAC 239 brush and samples of MAC 3D Copper glitter and Reflects Pearl glitter. I was also given a Loreal Bare Naturale Gentle Lip Conditioner as a free gift.

So far it all looks very promising except for the Estee Lauder Bronzing Pearls which weren’t really what I was expecting. I was thinking they’d be more like the Guerlain Meteorites and have a bit more shimmeriness to them but they’re don’t and the colour doesn’t make a difference on my skin tone. I’m thinking of holding a give away soon and I might include this in it because I’m not going to be getting any use out of it. I’ll probably put the Loreal lip conditioner in there too because this is the fourth one I’ve been given by this site in the exact same colour! I actually like it despite the weird Loreal smell that alot of their lip products contain but I still haven’t even finished one of these yet so it’s a waste for me to hang on to it.

Box number 2 was my purchase from Cherry Culture when they were having their Valentines Day sale about a week and a half ago where all their items were 20% off. I picked up all these things for about $50 which included shipping so I was pretty happy. I purchased the Milani Liquif Eye pencils in Black, Brown, Aqua, Silver and Gold, the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils in Pacific, Hot Pink, Yellow, Electric Blue, Purple Velvet and Rock Mountain Green and the NYX lipsticks in Snow White and Champagne. I was also given a Cherry Culture Bubblegum flavoured lip balm as a free gift.

I can’t wait to try out the Milani pencils because they get such awesome reviews plus I paid less than $5 for each compared with the $15 each that they would cost me in Australia. I’ve been looking for a really good silver and gold eye liner for the longest time so I hope these live up to the hype. I really wanted to buy more lipsticks from NYX but they have such a big range and the colour swatches on the site kind of suck so I just went with the two that I’ve heard recommended before.

Have any of you done any hauling recently? Are there any products in particular you want me to swatch/review? I’ll probably get to all of them eventually but I’m open to requests so leave me a comment below. 🙂
