~Grunge FOTD~ Antipodean Beauties Challenge

547136_10151807858756410_1546024019_n

It’s been quite a while since I’ve taken part in one of the Antipodean Beauties challenges but I was a child of the 90’s so I had to give the grunge challenge a go! I’m planning to participate more as the weeks go on and I’ve missed trying new looks every week!

1

I mainly used the Sleek Storm palette to do the eye makeup and smoked my eyes out as much as I could. The shades I used are (from left to right): MAC Blackground Paint Pot, Rimmel Scandal Eyes Waterproof Gel Eyeliner, Sleek Storm Pallette (dark brown, Maroon and black)

I wanted to keep the 90’s vibe to the look which proved to be more difficult than I realised. I struggled to find the perfect 90’s lip but finally landed on a combo that worked. Some of the shades I tried were (from left to right): NYX Espresso lip liner with Burberry Brown Sugar, NYX Soft Matte Lip Colour in Stockholm, NYX Espresso lip liner with NYX Soft Matte Lip Colour in London. I love how much you can vary a look by changing a lip colour.

6

I ended up going with the last lip combo of NYX Espresso lip liner with NYX Soft Matte Lip Colour in London patted in the centre. The dark lipliner/lighter lipstick combo is classic 90’s and fun to pull out for a look even though I wouldn’t wear it out anymore!

7

I skipped blush and just went with some light contouring on the cheekbones. I also darkened my brows more than usual. I’m not used to wearing so much eye makeup so my eyes hurt by the time it was time to take this all off but it was fun to try.

~Metallic FOTD~ Antipodean Beauties Challenge

547136_10151807858756410_1546024019_n

What I love about these weekly challenges is that it allows me to draw from my inspiration images and come up with looks that I might not necessarily wear anywhere else. For the metallic challenge, I knew that I wanted to do gold brows and lips and my inspiration for what I came up with were the looks below.

Amazing bright pink and gold lips (From http://blog.mawi.co.uk/2011/03/16/read-my-lips/)

Here’s my interpretation:

1

The main players in this look were Sugarpill Goldilux Ioose eyeshadow and Sugarpill Mochi Eyeshadow from the Heartbreaker palette. I used Mochi on my lids and then used Makeup Forever Aqua Cream in Gold in the crease. I blended out the crease with Goldilux and then mixed it with Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray so I could use it wet as a liquid liner. I also wanted to colour my brows in with it as well but my brows were too dark/thick so I went with the gold foil instead. I just used gold foil I picked up from an art store and stuck it down with Duo Lash Adhesive.

I used Goldilux wet and applied it to my lips and then patted Mochi in the centre of the lips. I also used the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On eye pencil in El Dorado as a lip liner.

I used Burberry Velvet Foundation as a base, Tom Ford Illuminating Highlight Pen as a concealer and highlighted my cheeks with Goldilux. The end look was kind of space agey but mint and gold will always be one of my favourite colour combinations.

~’Eyeliner Art’ mask~ Antipodean Beauties Challenge

547136_10151807858756410_1546024019_n

When I saw the ‘eyeliner art’ challenge I didn’t know what I wanted to do so I  decided to start by applying some Sugarpill Tiara loose pigment to my lids. I then picked up some black gel liner to line my eyes and, before I knew it, this just kind of happened:

I then picked up some glitter liners and a bright blue liner and ended up with this:

DSC_2199

I used the Rimmel Waterproof Gel Liner in Black to do all the line work and outlined the whole ‘mask’ with the Bloom Glitter Liner in Rising Star. The photograph doesn’t show how pretty this is but it’s a mix of black, silver, gold and bronze glitter. I coloured in parts of the ‘mask’ using the Modelista glitter liner in Silver, Modelista glitter liner in Gold and NYX Studio Liner in Extreme Blue. I don’t even remember where/when I bought the Modelista liners but they’re great for these kind of costume style looks.

I’m not the most creative or artistic person (even though I really wish I was!) but this look was so fun to do. I can see it being part of a costume party makeup or for a masquerade ball type event. I paired the look with dark lips with the Kate Moss for Rimmel Lasting Finish lipstick in shade #4 on top of a black lip liner by NYX.

I have to say, the hardest thing about this look was cleaning it off at the end! Imagine panda eyes multiplied so that it’s over your whole face. I went in with face wipes and then used a cleansing balm and then went in with the Clarisonic. The glitter was quite gritty though so I had to wipe it off carefully to avoid scratching my face.

What do you think of my ‘eye liner art’? Have you done something like this before for a party or an event?

~Summer FOTD~ Antipodean Beauties Challenge

  547136_10151807858756410_1546024019_n

Aah, summer. I dream about it when it’s cold and dreary and then curse it when it’s here in all its 40 degree glory! Still there are few things that can improve a bad mood then seeing the sun shining on a beautiful day but heat to me usually means simple makeup. Just a combination of bright lips and nails, rosy cheeks, gold/beige eyelids, filled in brows and mascara. I just re-read that sentence and despite how it sounds, I swear that it is a simple routine!

DSC_1722

I used some of my staple products for the look including my favourite blush, Smashbox Radiance which gives a seriously gorgeous flush to the cheeks. I also used MAC pigments in Blonde’s Gold and Naked Dark, my two favourite shades for a natural but radiant eye look (and also perfect as skin highlighters). I used Blonde’s Gold on the lid and then just blended out the crease with Naked Dark. On my brows I used MAC Stud Brow Crayon (which I’ve repurchased so many times) and a rediscovered love on my lashes, Loreal Voluminous mascara in Carbon Black.

DSC_1772

New to the line up is the Nearly Naked Foundation by Revlon (in the shade Toast) which I’m actually really liking! I used this over the Sunday Riley Effortless Breathable Primer in Deep which I’ve been using religiously either mixed in with my foundation or underneath it. Primer is a step I often skip the rest of the year but it becomes crucial in summer and the Sunday Riley one is fantastic and I’ll do a review soon. Another new product was the waterproof gel liner by Rimmel which I pushed into my lash line and it’s a great budget friendly option.

DSC_1762

One of my favourite new products is the Maybelline Color Whisper lipstick in Who Wore it Red-er. This is one of those red/pink shades that I love because it treads the line between both shades beautifully and works really well against my skin tone. The Color Whispers are very reminiscent of the formula of a lot of new wave lipstick’s which have a translucent but pigmented balm like texture. I’ve been trying them out for a week and so far I’m loving them. I’ll be reviewing these soon as well.

So there you have it, my typical Summer look. What’s yours like? Do you have a holy grail product that gets you through the heat? Let me know below!

~Old School Glamour FOTD~ Antipodean Beauties Challenge

547136_10151807858756410_1546024019_n

1

I put this  together the other day intending it to be a 1920’s inspired look and, while I don’t think I really got there, I still liked it. I couldn’t make myself commit fully and try to cover and then redraw my brows because it’s a nightmare to try and cover brows as dark and thick as mine. I hadn’t used my Dior Golden Savannah eyeshadow palette in a while so I pulled that out to the do the look.

2

I really love this palette but I like a lighter shade to use as a lid shade and the middle shade in the palette is really just a gold glitter so I used the shade Bubbly ( a light gold) from the Stila In the Light Palette as my lid shade. I used the coppery shade on the outer corner, the khaki in the crease, the dark taupe to darken the crease (mixed with some black shadow) and the tan shade to blend everything out. I finished up the look with Hourglass Calligraphy Liquid Liner in Cognac. If I had been going out somewhere other than the shops, I would have also added false lashes and mascara to the bottom lashes.

3

4

5

I used a mixture of Sunday Riley Effortless Breathable Primer in Dark (love this stuff!) and Burberry Velvet Foundation on the skin set with MAC Mineralize Skin Finish Natural in Medium Dark. I skipped blush because I didn’t want the look to get too heavy. In hindsight, I probably should have at least done a little light contouring. I finished up the look by using NYX lip liner in Auburn topped with Guerlain Rouge G lipstick in Gigolo.

~Aussie/Kiwi Brands FOTD~ Antipodean Beauties Challenge

547136_10151807858756410_1546024019_n

It was harder than I thought it would be to find products for this challenge. I searched through my stash and I managed to find enough to come up with a FOTD but it did make me realise I have to support Aussie brands more. It would of course be a lot easier to support them if they catered for my skin tone but since they don’t, I tend to have to go outside of Australian brands to find what I need but that’s a rant for another day!

1

For the face I used a combination of Becca Luminous Skin Colour in Bamboo and Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Gold.  On the cheeks I used Becca Songbird blush which is one of my favourites. I love a lot of what Becca comes out with because they make high quality products with chic packaging, cater for darker skin tones and make effortless and easy to wear colour choices in their product range.

2

I used an NP set palette (Party Set Palette) I was given by a friend to do the eye shadow and the Modelco Fibrelash mascara for my lashes. I can’t say that I loved the NP eyeshadow’s because they were very hard to work with and the pigmentation was not very good.

3

I finished up the eye look with my favourite Aussie liquid liner, the Savvy by DB liner in Navy. I have this in the Dark Brown as well and it’s one of my staples. This says a lot coming from me since I am a liquid liner addict and have tried many over the years!

4

5

I also used the Face of Australian lip gloss crayon in Macaron on my lips but changed that out for Lanolips lip ointment in Dark Honey later in the day because my lips were very dry. If you haven’t already tried them, Lanolips make great tinted lip products for super dry lips and dark honey is one of my favourite my lips but better shades.

6

So what are your favourite Aussie/Kiwi brands?
