I’m trying to catch up on as many challenges as I can and I thought that this Rodarte Fall 2014 inspired look was perfect for the Autumn challenge. I love Rodarte runway makeup because they tend to have an ethereal yet dark feel to them. I loved the glitter aspect to the lips in this particular look so I thought it’d be perfect to try and recreate. All the runway photos below are courtesy of Style.com.

The original look is by James Kaliardos who used NARS products from the new collection. The eyes were created using the Dolomites Duo which is made up of a reddish brown shade and a lavender shade. I substituted these by mixing MAC Sketch and Brown Script eyeshadow’s for the reddish brown shade and NARS Lhasa mixed with a glittery Clinique lavender shade I own for the other shade.

As my skin is brown, the brown shadows don’t stand out the way they do on the lighter skin tones above. I basically mixed Sketch and Brown Script together and blended it up to my brow and then used MAC Carbon in the outer corner to add a bit of depth. I then used a fluffy brush to blend some of the lavender on to the centre of my lid and to the inner corner. Here’s a great video if you want to try and recreate the look yourself at home.

I don’t own the lip shades used so I tried to recreate the lighter lip of the two featured at the top of the post by filling in my lips with NYX lip liner in Prune. This is quite a slightly subdued purple that’s showing up more vivid in my pictures because of the flash. I would stop here for a ‘wearable’ option or swap the lip out for a neutral shade.

The glitter is what originally drew me in though so I tried to find something that would work and the closest I could come up with was MAC 3D Copper glitter. I patted this on to my lips after mixing it with some NARS clear lip gloss. Trying to recreate this look made me realise that I am severely lacking in glitter, a situation I’ll be changing very soon!

The lip wasn’t exactly what I had envisioned but it’s always fun to play with glitter! If you do plan on recreating this look, stay away from holographic glitter and get something that’s in a similar shade to the lipstick or liner you’re using underneath it.

Thanks Olivia! If I could find more ways to make glitter work appropriate, I would wear it all the time!
