2013 Beauty Resolutions

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a great end to 2012 and are ready to face whatever 2013 has to offer. I’ve been absent on the blogging front which tends to happen when work gets a bit much. When you spend a good part of your time on a computer at work, the last thing you feel like doing when you get home is typing some more! Or at least that’s how I feel.

To ease myself into blogging again I thought I’d start off with a quick post about my beauty resolutions for 2013. There aren’t many but I hope I stick to them as best I can!

1. Shop my stash!

Like a lot of beauty bloggers and aficionados, I have a massive makeup collection. This is great as it gives me a big source to draw from for reviews but the negative is that it’s way too easy to forget what I own so things often go unused. Shopping my stash more means that I’ll actually (hopefully) start using things again that I might have been neglecting. One of the ways I plan on doing this is by using my lipstick bowl. This pink bowl is going to be filled weekly with a selection of lipsticks or glosses that I’ve been neglecting.

2. Stop buying eyeshadow palettes!

In connection with shopping my stash, I’m also going to try and stop adding to my stash. One of the major culprits in my makeup collections are unnecessary eyeshadow palettes. I’ll often pick up a palette because the colour’s just look so beautiful together or the palette itself is gorgeous but, let’s face it, there’s really only so many variations of neutral eyeshadow’s that one girl needs!

3. Be more adventurous with my makeup!

I’ve become really utilitarian with my makeup of late and have stopped experimenting and having fun when I get ready. It’s harder to be very adventurous with makeup during work days but I plan on having fun with my makeup on the weekends and using all the amazing bright, glittery and fun lipsticks and eyeshadow’s that I’ve been ignoring. Case in point: my friend bought me this beautiful Urban Decay Vice palette with lots of fun shades but I’ve only used the neutral shades so far because they’re quick and easy to work with.

4. Culling products when they’ve reached their end

Like a lot of people, I have a really hard time letting go of things from my makeup collection even when I know that they’re not very safe/good to use anymore. That’s why I plan on doing a cull at least once every 6 months to get rid of empties, dried up products, products that have gone off and stuff that I just don’t use anymore or never really used. Whatever I haven’t used will hopefully find a new home with a friend.

5. Blog more!

This isn’t a beauty resolution as such but I am honestly hoping to post more frequently. I haven’t been in the mood to post because of life and other things getting in the way but I’ve missed it and I have a stack of new products that I haven’t had the chance to share with you yet so stay tuned.

I’m sure there are a lot more beauty resolutions that I can make but those are my main ones. The major theme of this years resolutions is trying to get control of my collection, use what I own and stop buying what I really don’t need!

What are your 2013 resolutions (beauty or otherwise)?

I love this list! I have to start shopping my stash as well but I’m always running so late that I don’t have time to “experiment”

I’m right there with you on #2! Somehow palettes, with all the little colors together in cute packaging, are so appealing to me. I end up not using them most of the time. 😦 Planning on depotting them so I’ll use them more!
My major beauty resolution this year is not buying any more eyeshadows until I’ve used up all the dupes I own (I have a gazillion matte blacks, shimmery taupes, etc)

I get sucked in all the time and then I actually look at the shades next to what I own and realise (not for the first or 10th time) that I’ve purchased yet another taupe/bronze/gold shade that looks exactly the same as many i already own!

I wish I could depot them but I just don’t want to wreck the packaging.

Lol good luck with your beauty resolution! matte blacks have to be the hardest to use up 🙂
