Purple with a kick: MAC Style Curve lipstick

The MAC Stylishly Yours collection finally launched in Australia yesterday so I went to have a peek and see if there was anything I wanted. I’m not really a fan of the cream colour bases and I wouldn’t have gotten much use out of the brightly coloured pigments so I headed straight for the lipsticks. I was most curious about Something New lipstick which is a bright blue based pink but I decided to pass on it because it was too close to MAC’s Girl about Town and NARS Schiap which I already own. I passed on Neon Orange because of how similar it is to MAC Morange and I wasn’t interested in Cockney because I already own too many reds. That left me with Style Curve and I decided to get it because I don’t own anything like it.

It’s a bright violet colour in a Cremesheen finish and it seems to have a bit of blue irridescence through it. It tends to either look more purple or pink depending on the light.

I swatched it on my middle finger with MAC Girl About Town on the left and MAC Up the Amp on the right. As a cremesheen finish, it feels really nice on the lips but it isn’t as opaque as the Amplified finish of Girl about Town and Up the Amp.

It’s a pretty colour but purples tend to be a hard colour to wear and I think you have to get the rest of your makeup and outfit right to pull a colour like this off. It’s definitely worth a look though if you’re into purple lipsticks. I don’t know how much use I’ll get out of it especially during summer, but I can see this working as a good fall/winter colour.
